Scintel presents the 2015 WIT Girl of the Year award to Taya Welch
Atlanta, GA – November, 2015 – The WIT Girl of the Year award was created in 2012 as part of WIT’s commitment to support the entire lifecycle of a woman’s career in technology, and is presented annually as part of the Women of the Year in Technology Awards.
The Girl of the Year has demonstrated a strong interest in science, technology, engineering or math, has been fully engaged in one or more WIT GIRLS programs for one year, is respectful and encouraging to others, is credited with exemplary performance in education and school citizenship, and has created a lasting and positive impression on a WIT GIRLS sponsoring host company and WIT member. Scintel Technologies has sponsored the award since its inception.
Taya Amari Welch, a senior at Mt. Paran Christian School, is the youngest of three daughters to Andrew and Tannish Welch. Life hasn’t always been easy for Taya but she’s always chosen to follow her favorite motto “BELIEVE”. Taya balances a full schedule: school, athletics, community service, and working part-time. She wouldn’t have it any other way because this has prepared her for a challenging career in STEM (Data Analytics). Statistics indicate that minority women are not likely to pursue a career in STEM. One of Taya’s goals is to work to change that mindset, personally beat the odds, continue to BELIEVE and encourage others to do so.
Taya has attended a number of WIT GIRLS events including job shadow programs at McKesson and Jackson Healthcare, behind-the-scenes programs at NCR and AT&T, and a STEM seminar panel at Kennesaw State University.
Scintel is proud to be partnering with Girls Get IT and WIT which allows us to be a part of this exciting story and have a meaningful impact on the lives of young women destined to become trailblazers in our industry.
