Congratulations to the 2016 WIT Girl of the Year

The WIT Girl of the Year award was created in 2012 as part of WIT’s commitment to support the entire lifecycle of a woman’s career in technology, and is presented annually as part of the Women of the Year in Technology Awards.
The Girl of the Year has demonstrated a strong interest in science, technology, engineering or math, has been fully engaged in one or more WIT GIRLS programs for one year, is respectful and encouraging to others, is credited with exemplary performance in education and school citizenship, and has created a lasting and positive impression on a WIT GIRLS sponsoring host company and WIT member. Scintel Technologies has sponsored the award since its inception.
Brittany Clarke, a 16-year-old junior at Starrs Mill High School, has always had an interest in STEAM careers. Brittany has known since the 7th grade that she wanted to be a neurosurgeon and work with biomedical technology. To some 7th graders those may have seemed like lofty dreams, but not Brittany! While her interests have slightly varied and broadened based on experiences and exposure to different jobs, she still is strongly interested in Biomedical Engineering.
With her involvement in Women in Technology, Girl Scouts, FIRST Robotics, HOSA (Healthcare Occupation Students of America), Chess Club, Book Club, and Society of Women Engineers she is a well-rounded student and future member of society. Her goal has always been to help people regardless of differences and make the world a better place. Her ultimate dream is to cure MS (Multiple Sclerosis) or at least contribute to the cure of it through her research and the use of Biomedical Engineering.
Brittany’s motto is “Don’t follow your dreams, catch them and make them a reality” because regardless of what people say, with determination and hard work, the world is in each and every individual’s hands; and the future is theirs to mold.
